WHAT IS A CHIROPRACTIC INTERNIST?
Chiropractic Internists are recognized by the acronym "DABCI" which stands for Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Internists, under the umbrella of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA). DABCI represents credentials earned by chiropractic physicians that have completed 300+ hours of post-doctoral training in the use of diagnostics for pathological and wellness evaluation. DABCI's are board-certified through the American Board of Chiropractic Internist's (ABCI) and utilize the same diagnostic tools and examination methods as conventional medicine.
The Chiropractic Internist philosophy and approach is based on the paradigm of natural, functional and preventative medicine that believes in a 'treating the fire, not the smoke" theory; DABCI's practice a wellness model that treats dysfunction before disease develops. Chiropractic Internists fuse biochemical with biophysical medicine in order to achieve comprehensive, integrative healthcare.
The objective of the Chiropractic Internist is to evaluate conditions as early as possible, often averting disease outcomes and their secondary effects. This diagnostic and treatment approach offers a variety of novel solutions, even for advanced, chronic cases. The doctor regularly analyzes puzzling conditions that present with a myriad of symptoms which may have been overlooked or discounted. For example, the effects of chronic inflammatory bowel disease do not limit themselves to the GI tract; they might also affect the brain, musculoskeletal and immune systems. Successful management of chronic illnesses requires an integrative approach in order to address all affected body systems. Imbalances in the patient's immune system, energy production, gastrointestinal, hormonal, structural, neurological, and physiological health are all examined resulting in a truly holistic approach.
The Chiropractic Internist treatment is concerned with restoring health by balancing dysfunctional systems. The treatment protocols typically include in-depth medical history, laboratory interpretation, nutritional recommendations, use of pharmaceutical-grade nutritional supplementation, and comprehensive diagnostic tools that go beyond standard conventional testing.
